If you get some weird e-mail attachments from Windows users (normally shown as a winmail.dat file) that you cannot open, if may be because the sender is using Microsoft Outlook which sends a "rich text" e-mail that requires Outlook to decode. Since the is not an Outlook version for the Mac, you cannot open it.
There is a free Mac program called TNEF's Enough that can unlock the attachments buried in those winmail.dat files. You can download it at www.joshjacob.com/macdev/tnef/index.html.
