To magnify your Mac's screen, click 'Turn on Zoom' within the Universal Access System Preference. Use the keyboard shortcuts to zoom in an out.
Hint: Once you go into Universal Access, it gives you the keyboard sequence to use. To zoom in, you use the Apple key, the Option key, and the Equal sign key. To zoom out, substitute the minus sign key for the equal key.
