iTunes 7 - thoughts

Last week I was unable to make a purchase from the iTunes store without making an upgrade in my iTunes version. I was using the 4.2 version of iTunes that was installed with OS 10.4. Since I wanted to make the purchase I made an update to iTunes 7.2.

iTunes 7.2 will make some changes in your library structure, making any change back to your previous version of iTunes impossible. Additionally, the iPod tab is not contained in this version. I have not yet determined whether or not this lack of the iPod tab inhibits the mounting of your iPod as a volume on the desktop. That is something that I like to do in order to quickly store a backup of an item on an external iPod hard drive.

iTunes senses that my 4th generation iPod's software is out of date and wants to install some updates onto it but at this time I'm not sure that I want to permit that activity.

I'm thinking now that the better choice would have been to update the iTunes to version 6.5 than to take the bait to version 7.2

Any thoughts....

Chris Buffington
