iTunes 7.6.1: Apple TV problems; missing library

Apple TV problems Users are reporting a series of issues with Apple TV after updating to iTunes 7.6.1, namely:

  • The Apple TV does not appear in the iTunes device list
  • Movies and other media stored on Macs cannot be played on the Apple TV, with the error messages "There are no movies on your AppleTV. Set up a connection [...]" or "The selected video cannot be played. The format was not recognized." appearing

If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.

Missing library If you find that all of your music and other media is missing after the update to iTunes 7.6.1, try quitting the program then launching it again while holding the Shift key -- this will allow you to select the desired iTunes library. Look in ~/Music/ (in your user home directory) for folders that begin with "iTunes." Your old library may have been inadvertently renamed.

Poor MP3 playback Some users have reported that the audio quality of certain MP3 files is lackluster after the update to iTunes 7.6.1. If you are experiencing a similar issue, please let us know.

Podcasts won't play We've received reports of problems playing podcasts under iTunes 7.6.1. One reader writes:

"I had a problem with itunes until 7.6.1. Now whenever I try playing a podcast it's spinning wheel of death time. Only out is killing the computer by turning off the power."
