Hidden deep in System Preferences is Keyboard Viewer, an extremely handy tool that displays your entire keyboard and allows you to see the result of a key combination before you type it. Pressing a modifier key likecontrol, shift, option, etc., and Keyboard Viewer will show you all of the characters that are available.
To find Keyboard Viewer go to the International preference panel (obviously) and choose the Input Menu tab. Check the “on” box for Keyboard Viewer then check the “Show input menu in menu bar” option at the bottom of the window. You’ll see a new icon in the menu bar that gives you access to Keyboard Viewer.
