Jajah enables telephony via the Web

Had it with Voice over IP (VoIP) services that requires you to download a proprietary client on to your Mac? Jajah takes a fundamentally different approach — with it you initiate a call over the Internet using their Web site, but you complete the call using regular phone numbers.

So with Jajah, you use your regular telephone — you don’t need a headset, and you don’t need to use a special software application to talk with your callers. Jajah only initiates the call. After typing in your number and the number you’re calling, your phone will ring — pick it up and Jajah will complete a connection to the person you’re calling.

In its trial mode, Jajah works for free for the first five minutes — the company then charges for calls beyond that time. The trial mode is limited to landlines — once you register an account and apply some credit, you can call from and to any number.

Jajah’s developers say that it works with any type of computer and any type of Internet connection, and most popular Web browsers. You’ll also need active phone numbers, of course.
